GROTON -- Body, Mind, & Spirit Salon will be hosting a Boston Strong Blow Dry Cut-a-thon Friday, at the Mill Run Plaza, 493 Main St., Unit E, in Groton, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
At a suggested donation of $20, patrons can get their hair cut with chemical-free products. An additional donation of $20 is suggested if the patron chooses to have his or her hair cut and blow-dried. This service has a retail value of $35-$60. In addition to hair styling services, the Boston Strong Blow Dry Cut-a-thon will hold a raffle give-away offering prizes from contributing businesses in the community.
Businesses that have agreed to participate include Bailey's Bar and Grille, Blackbird Café, Bull Run Restaurant, Community Chiropractic, Color*full, Cherie Tassi Jewelry Design, Flowers for Nanie, Filho's Cucina, Feed Your Life, Groton Therapeutic Massage, Hannaford Supermarket, Kevin Murphy and Lavender Flowers and Gifts. Of course, beauty baskets filled with Body, Mind, & Spirit Salon hair care products will also be up for raffle.
"I have been personally humbled by the experience of contacting all 16 of these businesses," stylist Jessica Bisol, of Fitchburg, said. "None of them said no."
Bisol is the stylist who spearheaded the fundraising event after talking to her clients about the Boston tragedy.
There will be four stylists, including Bisol and Stephenson, ready to donate their time and talent for Friday's event. Michelle Florence, of Fitchburg, and Tony Lopez, of Winchendon, are the two remaining stylists. All four are regular staff at the Body, Mind, & Spirit Salon.
Two additional beauticians will be on stand-by managing the raffle. The staff at Body, Mind, & Spirit Salon are all multi-licensed and trained to service clients with nail care, massages, facials, waxing, make-up, and body treatments. Yet, for the purpose of the Boston Strong Blow Dry Cut-a-thon, services will be limited to haircuts and blow-drying in order to serve as many people as possible. Patrons are welcome to schedule an appointment for other services.
With so many fundraisers for the Boston tragedy underway, what excites Bisol about the Boston Strong Blow Dry Cut-a-thon is that she and her colleagues are able to contribute to a cause that they would otherwise not be involved in.
"I think what makes this fundraiser different is that we are doing our own type of marathon of something that we are good at." Bisol said. "We're taking our talent and able to help people."
The Boston Strong Blow Dry Cut-a-thon hopes to raise $5,000 for The One Fund. According to Bisol, the salon typically services 50-100 people a week. So far, the fundraiser has already booked approximately 35-40 people. Giving to The One Fund seemed like an easier decision than singling out one family to donate to. "To choose one family, it was way too hard," Bisol said. "I cannot make that decision."
So, she has decided to leave that task up to The One Fund.
Boston Strong Blow Dry Cut-a-thon has become more than just a Body, Mind, & Spirit Salon fundraiser. It is a community event. Bisol said the response has been nothing but positive. In addition to patrons walking away with fabulous haircuts, Bisol said she wants people to leave feeling good about themselves, knowing that they are helping others.
