AYER -- The 10th annual Recycle Your Reusables, the area's largest recycling drop-off day, takes place on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bemis Associates in Shirley.
"We're expecting big crowds this year," says Laurie Sabol, the event's coordinator. "You'll be able to drop off a wide range of harder-to-recycle items, from audio cassette tapes to latex paint to Styrofoam and dozens of other types of things."
Over its nine years Recycle Your Reusables has diverted hundreds of tons of material from waste streams. Vendors repurpose materials of value in ways that support underserved communities, and boost our local economy. Many social service agencies are onsite accepting good quality household goods for their clients who are coming out of homelessness. Other items, such as electronics, are broken down into their component parts and recycled or sold.
Sabol advises, "RYR is a busy and chaotic place. You may encounter waiting lines. Please be patient. And don't come early. No one will be allowed to drop off anything prior to 9 a.m."
