AYER -- A speeding stop yielded an arrest of a woman wanted on multiple warrants. It happened on Tuesday, Feb. 12, when, at 1:30 in the morning, Ayer Police Sgt. John MacDonald pulled over a car on Pleasant Street which he'd witnessed speeding on West Main Street.

The traffic stop itself would have been routine except that when approaching the car to speak to its operator, MacDonald noticed what appeared to be a person hiding under a blanket in the back seat of the car. Lifting the blanket, MacDonald discovered and ultimately arrested 24-year-old Katelyn Maureen Bancroft of 14 William St.

Bancroft was known by the Ayer Police to be wanted for four arrest warrants, all out of Lowell District Court. Bancroft faced two counts of stalking, a count of threatening to commit a crime and a total of 14 counts between three separate warrants for violation of a harassment prevention order.

Ayer Police Lt. Brian Gill reports Bancroft was taken into custody without incident.
