TOWNSEND -- Townsend police and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office are investigating the death of a 44-year-old man whose body was found in the Squannacook River on Saturday afternoon, but they said the death does not appear to be suspicious.

Townsend police said the body of a white male was pulled from a part of the river near Riverbank Terrace and the MBTA railroad trestle about 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Both police and a spokesman for District Attorney Marian Ryan said there were no signs of foul play.
