HARVARD -- There will be four sections of kindergarten in the next school year, enough classes to maintain class sizes of 15 to 18 children.
The School Committee on Monday approved a recommendation from interim Superintendent Joseph Connelly to add the fourth section, based on current registrations.
"We have 51 now, but that doesn't include transitioning students," Connelly told the committee. "This number is firm and I think it justifies a fourth section."
Connelly said the committee's approval would allow Hildreth Elementary School principal Linda Dwight to begin interviewing a fourth kindergarten teacher.
In addition, he pointed out that the current number, 51 registrations, is just shy of 54, the tipping point for maintaining a desirable class size.
"If we go beyond 54, we exceed class size," Connelly said.
